Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley is hoping Congress gets to work on the new farm bill then they return from the August recess. He says he would like to see it completed and sent to the Senate floor by October.
Grassley’s other Congressional priority for agriculture yet this year is passing a tax reform bill that contains Section 179 expensing and elimination of the estate tax.
Grassley expects budget constraints and he’s hoping Congress doesn’t take funding away from crop insurance for budget reconciliation.
However, Grassley is pessimistic about both chambers of Congress being able to pass a new farm bill by the end of the year.
