Grassley Unlikely to Change Mandate on Cattle Reform Bill

Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley says he is not inclined to take out the mandated negotiated cash cattle provision in his  Cattle Price Discovery and Transparency Act.  American Farm Bureau changed their position on the bill and said they will only support it if the mandate is removed.  Grassley says he and co-sponsor Senator Deb Fischer of Nebraska says they will do what is best for their constituents.

He says if they can’t come to an agreement with Farm Bureau they may lose that support for the bill.

However, Grassley points out that cattle producers are not prohibited from entering alternative marketing agreements under his bill.

Grassley says they are working on getting more sponsors for the bill in the Senate but so far discussions have been positive.
