President Donald Trump’s trade philosophy includes negotiation of bilateral trade agreements to allow the U.S. to broker the best deal. However, Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley, who is also a member of the Finance Committee, disagrees. He thinks agreements negotiated through the World Trade Organization or on a multilateral basis are the best for the U.S.
He says the President’s trade advisers believe the U.S. has better leverage in a bilateral trade deal.
Grassley says he will support the President if can actually produce a better deal dealing with one country at a time.
Grassley says with the administration pulling of the TPP they need to get to work as soon as possible to strike a deal with Japan, among others.
