Grassley Comments on Supreme Court Proposition 12 Ruling

Grassley Comments on Supreme Court Proposition 12 Ruling

U-S Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa is critical of the U-S Supreme Court’s ruling involving California’s Proposition 12 which calls for pork producers to expand the space requirements for breeding sows for pork to be sold in California.  Grassley spoke to agriculture media during his weekly news conference.  The judges ruled on a 5 to 4 decision and Grassley calls the situation as being odd since both liberal and conservative judges joined together for both sides of the issue.

Grassley says the ruling will certainly mean higher food prices for consumers.

Although Grassley says he will be in the fight to overturn the Supreme Court’s decision through legislation, he is not overly optimistic on the outcome.  Grassley says Congress needs to overturn the Supreme Court’s ruling otherwise it will create a “slippery slope.”
