The National Grain and Feed Association is giving mixed review to a proposed Clean Air Act permit rule by EPA regarding grain storage structures. Association President Randy Gordon says EPA initially called for equating temporary grain structures with permanent storage facilities but then withdrew that part of their proposed rule.
Gordon says had that been kept in the proposed rule it would have subjected elevators with 2 and a half million bushels of grain or more to costly clean air act permit requirements. He says however they remain concerned with the proposed rule to a complicated calculation EPA is using.
Gordon says storage capacity and regulation is becoming more and more important with the amount of production they’re anticipating this harvest season.
