GPAC women’s basketball teams won two of their three outings Thursday at the NAIA national tourney in Sioux City.
The biggest upset so-far of the tournament came behind a heavy Northwestern (Iowa) crowd. The No. 6 Red Raiders took on the No. 3 Southern Oregon Raiders, walking away with an 83-68 win to advance.
Northwestern, now 20-11 overall, advances forward into the second-round where they will meet undefeated and No. 2 Southeastern (Fla.) who won earlier over No. 7 Valley City State (N.D.) (24-9).
The 35th all-time national championship victory for Morningside came after defeating No. 6 Siena Heights (Mich.) 90-73. The Mustangs are back into the second-round for the 14th-straight postseason and now sit at 35-11 in the event.
Now at 24-8, Morningside takes on No. 2 College of the Ozarks (Mo.) (27-4) on Friday.
Friends (Kan.) avenged a regular season loss with a 63-57 win over No. 5 Hastings .
