The Doane College women and Concordia University men claimed team titles on Saturday at the 2014 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships. The Tiger women scored 212.17 points, while the Bulldog men scored 196 points. The 2014 GPAC Championships were held at the newly renovated Fuhrer Fieldhouse on the Doane Campus.
The 2014 GPAC Outstanding Athletes were Neeia Cooperwood from Morningside College who scored 38 points for the Mustangs and Kale Wolken from Doane College who scored 26.5 points for the Tigers. Cooperwood was a three event winner on the day (60 meters, 200 meters, and long jump). She placed second in the 400 meters. Wolken won the Heptathlon (Friday and Saturday), placed first in the long jump, fifth in the pole vault, and tied for sixth in the high jump. Cooperwood set a GPAC record in the 200 with a time of 24.86 and tied the 60 meters record at 7.70, while Wolken set Heptathlon event records in the 60 meters (7.03), long jump (23-00.75), and shot put (45-00.50). Cooperwood and Wolken are Hauff Mid-America Sports GPAC Indoor Track and Field Outstanding Athletes-of-the-Year.
The outstanding performances-of-the-meet (female and male) and coaches-of-the-year will be voted on next week.
