The Doane College women and Concordia University men claimed team titles on Saturday at the 2015 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
The Tiger women scored 225 points, while the Bulldog men scored 184.5 points. The 2015 GPAC Championships were held at Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa, at Open Space Park.
The 2015 GPAC Outstanding Athletes were Neeia Cooperwood from Morningside College who scored 40.75 points for the Mustangs and Kale Wolken from Doane College who scored 37 points for the Tigers. Cooperwood, a senior, won four events on the day including the 100 meters (11.98), the 200 meters (23.85-new meet record), the 400 meters (54.89) and the long jump (19-03.50). She also was a part of the 4×100 relay that took sixth place.
Wolken, a junior, dominated the field events, taking a first in the decathlon (6721-new meet record) and the javelin (191-10). In addition, he took second in the long jump (23-07.25), fourth in the 110m (15.26 ) hurdles and fifth in the high jump (6-04.00).
Neeia Cooperwood and Kale Wolken are Hauff Mid-America Sports GPAC Outdoor Track and Field Outstanding Athletes-of-the-Year.
