The 2014 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Cross Country Championships were held on Saturday, November 8 in Mitchell, South Dakota.
The women’s 5k and men’s 8k races were run at Wild Oak Golf Course and Dakota Wesleyan was the host.
In the women’s race Dordt College, ranked 2nd in the NAIA, scored 31 points and claimed the conference title. The Lady Defenders had the 3rd, 5th, 6th, 8th, 9th, 11th, and 13th place finishers in the race (top five score). Hastings placed second with 83 points, while Doane was third with 99 points. Nebraska Wesleyan’s Gabi Jenkins was the individual champion with a time of 17:42.16.
In the men’s race Morningside College, ranked 12th in the NAIA, scored 44 points and claimed league championship honors. The Mustangs were paced by individual champion Jay Welp who ran a time of 25:10.56. Morningside also crossed the line with the 2nd, 6th, 17th, and 18th place runners among their scorers. Northwestern was second with 64 points, while Dordt was third with 77.
The NAIA National Cross Country Championships will be on November 22 in Lawrence, Kansas, at Rim Rock Farm. The 2014 NAIA Cross Country Championships are being hosted by the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC).
