Football Players of the Week in the Great Plains Athletic Conference were announced Monday.
Offense – Devin Thomas, Wide Receiver– Morningside College
Morningside wide receiver Devin Thomas is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Offensive Player-of-the-Week. Thomas, a senior, from Council Bluffs, Iowa, helped put up big numbers in the Mustangs convincing win over Nebraska Wesleyan. Thomas hauled in nine receptions for 166 yards and three touchdowns. His touchdown catches came on gains of 39, 43, and 39 yards respectively. Morningside, ranked No. 2 in the NAIA, will take on Dordt College on September 20 in their home opener. Kick off will be at 7 PM.
Defense – Anthony Cervantes, Linebacker – Dakota Wesleyan University
Dakota Wesleyan University linebacker Anthony Cervantes is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Defensive Player-of-the-Week. Cervantes, a senior, from Burbank, California, finished with eight tackles and returned an interception for a touchdown in the Tigers 27-16 win over Briar Cliff. His interception and ensuing 77-yard return for the score came during the second quarter. Dakota Wesleyan will next play on September 20 in what could be the NAIA Game of the Week, as they No. 15 Tigers host No. 18 Northwestern. Kick off will be at 1 PM.
