The top football performers for the week have been honored by the Great Plains Athletic Conference.
Offense – Jacob Kalogonis, Running Back (Northwestern College)
Northwestern running back Jacob Kalogonis is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Offensive Player-of-the-Week. Kalogonis, a sophomore from Lake Havasu City, Arizona, rushed for 214 yards, the second most for his career, on 24 carries and scored two touchdowns against in a win over Dordt. He also caught five passes for a career-high 88 yards. Kalogonis now has 1,162 rushing yards on the season, ninth most all-time for the Red Raiders, and is the first player with over 1,000 yards rushing since the 2012 season. His 12 rushing touchdowns is tied for sixth most all-time at Northwestern. The 14th-ranked Red Raiders have the week off before traveling to Hastings on November 11.
Defense – Lane Napier, Linebacker (Concordia University)
Concordia linebacker Lane Napier is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Defensive Player-of-the-Week. Napier, a freshman, from David City, Nebraska, totaled a career high 17 tackles in a 38-16 Concordia win over Dakota Wesleyan. Napier also contributed a sack, a pass breakup and a quarterback hurry. Napier and the Bulldog defense held the Tigers 217 yards below their season average. He currently ranks second in the GPAC with 67 tackles on the year. The Bulldogs, who were receiving votes in the last NAIA Rankings, travel to Sioux City to take on Briar Cliff on Saturday. Kick off will be at 1 pm.
Special Teams – Spencer Wyant, Punter (Morningside College)
Spencer Wyant of Morningside is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Special Teams Player-of-the-Week. Wyant, a junior, from Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, averaged 44.2 yards per punt in the Mustangs’ victory against Midland. He boomed a 56-yarder and had two punts downed inside the 20. Wyant is the fifth leading punter in the nation with an average of 42.4 yards per punt. The 4th-ranked Mustangs travel to Crete, Nebraska, to take on the 24th-ranked Doane Tigers on Saturday. Kick off will be at 1 pm.
