The Great Plains Athletic Conference has announced its football Players of the Week.
Offense – Tyson Kooima, Quarterback (Northwestern College)
Northwestern quarterback Tyson Kooima is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Offensive Player-of-the-Week. Kooima, a freshman from Hull, Iowa, accounted for 359 yards and four touchdowns in leading the Red Raiders to their third highest point total in program history. He threw for 284 yards and three scores while also rushing for 75 yards and a touchdown. For the season, Kooima has completed 64% of his passes and has thrown 12 touchdowns and just one interception. The 19th-ranked Tigers will host 4th-ranked Morningside this Saturday. Kick off will be at 1:30 pm.
Defense – Cole Wiseman, Defensive Back (Doane University)
Doane defensive back Cole Wiseman is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Defensive Player-of-the-Week. Wiseman, a senior, from Sutton, Nebraska, tied a school record with three interceptions in a 29-18 loss to Concordia. He returned his first interception 55 yards for a touchdown. His second pick was returned to the 3-yard line to set-up a Tigers’ touchdown and his third led to a field goal. He also had a blocked a field goal attempt and was in on five tackles as Doane held Concordia to 256 yards in total offense. He leads the NAIA in interceptions with five and has scored twice this season off an interception. The 7th-ranked Tigers travel to Sioux City, Iowa to take on Briar Cliff this week. Kickoff is at 1 pm.
Special Teams – Exavier Edwards, Defensive Back (Midland University)
Exavier Edwards of Midland is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Special Teams Player-of-the-Week. Edwards, a senior, from Irvine, California, had two kickoff returns for touchdowns as the Warriors won on the road at Dordt. In the first quarter he returned a kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown. Then, in the final two minutes of the games the Defenders tried to kick away from him and he scooped up the pooch kick and raced past the coverage team to give Midland the lead. He would cap off his day with a pass breakup on fourth down to seal the victory. The Warriors, receiving votes in last week’s NAIA Poll will travel to Mitchell, South Dakota, to take on Dakota Wesleyan who was also among those receiving votes. Kick off will be at 1 pm.
