The weekly football Players of the Week were announced Monday by the Great Plains Athletic Conference.
Offense – Dillon Turner, Quarterback (Dakota Wesleyan University)
Dakota Wesleyan quarterback Dillon Turner is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Offensive Player-of-the-Week. Turner, a senior from Salem, Arkansas, set a career-high in passing yards with 446, completing 28-of-35 passes, while tossing two touchdowns, in the Tigers 55-21 victory over Midland on Saturday. Turner was just 11 yards shy of passing former DWU quarterback Jon Bane in the DWU record books for passing yards in a game. He also ran for a pair of scores, while tallying 16 yards on eight carries. The 25th-ranked Tigers will travel to 4th-ranked Morningside this Saturday. Kick off will be at 1:30 pm.
Defense – Caden McDonald, Defensive Back (Morningside College)
Morningside linebacker Caden McDonald is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Defensive Player-of-the-Week. McDonald, a senior, from Logan, Iowa, led the team with 11 tackles, including nine solo stops. He also had two quarterback sacks, intercepted a pass to set up a touchdown and blocked a Northwestern PAT attempt. The 11 tackles was McDonald’s third double figure performance of the season. His three interceptions is the sixth highest total in the nation. The 4th-ranked Mustangs will host the 25th-ranked Tigers of Dakota Wesleyan on Saturday. Kickoff is at 1:30 pm.
Special Teams – Cameron Sorg, Defensive Back (Dakota Wesleyan University)
Cameron Sorg of Dakota Wesleyan is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Special Teams Player-of-the-Week. Sorg, a freshman, from Merritt Island, Florida, tallied his first touchdown in a Tiger uniform on a 73-yard punt return, propelling the Tigers to a 55-21 victory on Saturday in Mitchell. He also returned a kickoff 21 yards and another punt for 29 yards. The 25th-ranked Tigers will travel to 4th-ranked Morningside this Saturday. Kick off will be at 1:30 pm.
