GPAC Tabs Football Honors

The Great Plains Athletic Conference has announced its weekly football Players of the Week.

Offense – Dillon Turner, Quarterback (Dakota Wesleyan University)
Dakota Wesleyan quarterback Dillon Turner is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Offensive Player-of-the-Week. Turner, a junior from Salem, Arkansas, showed off his dual-threat ability in a 55-17 over the University of Jamestown on Saturday. He carried the ball 19 times for 177 yards and three scores, while throwing for 219 yards and four more touchdowns. He finished 21-of-28 passing and did not throw an interception. Turner set a new career high for rushing yards and tied his career high with three rushing touchdowns. He is now third on the Tigers all-time total offense list with 6,321 yards and has moved into fifth career passing yards with 4,800. Dakota Wesleyan, ranked 16th in the NAIA, opens conference play by hosting 9th-ranked Doane University on September 17.   Kick off will be at 1pm.

Defense – Michael Hedlund, Linebacker (Concordia University)
Concordia University linebacker Michael Hedlund is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Defensive Player-of-the-Week. Hedlund, a senior, from O’Neill, Nebraska, filled the stat sheet with 18 tackles (1.5 for loss), a forced fumble and an interception in helping lead Concordia to a 34-23 win at Ottawa University. Hedlund’s interception came in the fourth quarter with the Bulldogs leading 31-23 at the time. He currently ranks second among all NAIA players in tackles per game (16.0). Concordia who was receiving votes in the last NIAA Poll, hosts Northwestern to open conference play on Saturday. Kick off will be at 1pm.

Special Teams – Andres Burgoin, Kicker (Doane University)
Doane kicker Adres Burgoin is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Special Teams Player-of-the-Week. Burgoin, a junior, from San Diego, California, accounted for 11 points in Doane’s 11-point victory over NCAA Division II opponent William Jewell. He kept the Tigers in the game in the first half as the offense was held out of the end zone and Doane trailed 12-6 at the break. He added a field goal and two PATs in the second half to help clinch the game for the Tigers. Doane, ranked ninth in the NAIA, will travel to 16th-ranked Dakota Wesleyan on Saturday. Kick off will be at 1pm.
