GPAC Tabs Basketball Honors

The Great Plains Athletic Conference has released its weekly winners as basketball Players of the Week for the league.

Women – Deaundra Young, College of Saint Mary (Center)

College of Saint Mary center Deaundra Young is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports women’s basketball player-of-the-week.  Young, a senior from Mims, Florida, had back-to-back double doubles, scoring 41 points and grabbing 12 rebounds against No. 9 Concordia and added another 26 points and pulled down 17 rebounds against Mount Marty. She has had a double-double in her last 15 games and is currently leads NAIA Division II in rebounding (13.6 rpg) and is second in scoring (21.875 ppg) and blocks (3.188). The Flames are 10-9 to and 4-8 in league play.

 

Men – Travis Giesselmann, Nebraska Wesleyan (Forward)

Nebraska Wesleyan forward Travis Giesselmann is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports men’s basketball player-of-the-week.  Giesselmann, a senior from Elkhorn, Nebraska, averaged 31 points and 9.5 rebounds as he led the Prairie Wolves to a pair of GPAC victories on the week. He also averaged 5.5 assists and 2.5 steals in the two wins. Against Doane, Giesselmann recorded his seventh double-double of the season with 35 points and 11 rebounds. He was 5-11 from 3-point range in the win over the Tigers. In a win over Morningside, he poured in 27 points and led the team with eight rebounds and eight assists. He currently ranks second in the GPAC in points and rebounds and is tied for the conference lead in steals.  Nebraska Wesleyan is now 13-4 overall and 8-3 in the GPAC.
