The Great Plains Athletic Conference has announced its baseball Players of the Week.
Pitcher – Fernando Gutierrez, Northwestern
Northwestern pitcher Fernando Gutierrez is the GPAC/Hauff-Mid America Sports Baseball Pitcher-of-the-Week. Gutierrez, a 5-10 junior from Tranquility, California, pitched four innings of one-hit baseball against Bellevue in relief and threw a complete game allowing just one run on six hits against Hastings in his first start of the season. Northwestern knocked off the Broncos 4-1 in his start. For the week he pitched 11 innings, allowed two runs on seven hits and one walk, and picked up one win.
Player- Jared Neilan, Dakota Wesleyan
Dakota Wesleyan outfielder Jared Neilan is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Baseball Player-of-the-Week. The 6’2 sophomore from Pierre, South Dakota, led the Tiger offense as Dakota Wesleyan won five of their six games on the week and three out of four in GPAC play. His top performance came in a three-hit six-RBI effort, including a three-run triple to help DWU top Concordia 14-4 in game two of a DH sweep on Sunday. He finished the week with 10 hits, 8 runs and 11 RBIs. He also added two doubles while hitting .526.
