The 2015 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Postseason Women’s Soccer Tournament completed quarterfinal action on Thursday with the one, two, three and five seeds all victorious.
The lone upset of the day came as fifth seed Concordia downed fourth seed Briar Cliff by a score of 4-0. The Bulldogs, last season’s defending tournament champions, will take on Hastings in the semifinals. Hastings was a 1-0 winner over conference newcomer College of Saint Mary, the eight seed.
On the other side of the bracket third seed Northwestern advanced with a 1-0 win over six seed Dordt. It was the first postseason win since 2006 for the Red Raiders. Northwestern will take on second seed Morningside in the semifinals. The Mustangs were 2-1 winners over seven seed Nebraska Wesleyan.
The winner of the GPAC Regular Season & Tournament will both advance, as the league’s automatic representatives, to the NAIA National Women’s Soccer National Championship Opening Round (on Saturday, November 21). The GPAC is allotted two automatic berths because the conference has 12 NAIA teams in the postseason.
Sixteen teams will advance to the NAIA Women’s Soccer National Championship Final Site in Orange Beach, Alabama, November 30 – December 5, 2015, at the Orange Beach Sports Complex.
