GPAC Names Players Of The Week

The top football performances of the week in the Great Plains Athletic Conference have been singled out.

Offense – Bubba Jenkins, Running Back (Morningside College)
Morningside running back Bubba Jenkins is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Offensive Player-of-the-Week. Jenkins, a senior from Springfield, Missouri, broke loose for a 47-yard touchdown run on the Mustangs’ second offensive play of the game and went on to run for a season-high 206 yards and four touchdowns in the Mustangs’ 76-21 romp against Dakota Wesleyan. He has rushed for over 100 yards in each of the last five games and has run for 199 yards or more in each of the last three contests. He leads the NAIA with 867 yards rushing and is second in the nation at 144.5 yards rushing per game. The 4th-ranked Mustangs will travel across town to take on Briar Cliff on Saturday. Kick off will be at 1 pm.

Defense – Caden McDonald, Linebacker (Morningside College)
Morningside linebacker Caden McDonald is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Defensive Player-of-the-Week. McDonald, a senior, from Logan, Iowa, had a game-high 12 tackles for his fourth double figure total of the season and stopped a Dakota Wesleyan scoring opportunity when he blocked a 37-yard field goal attempt in the second quarter of the Mustangs’ 76-21 win. He sacked Dakota Wesleyan quarterback Dillon Turner twice for losses of 23 yards and also had four quarterback hurries. The 4th-ranked Mustangs will travel across town to take on Briar Cliff on Saturday. Kick off will be at 1 pm.

Special Teams – Alex Stogdill, Kicker/Punter (Hastings College)
Alex Stogdill of Hastings is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Special Teams Player-of-the-Week. Stogdill, a junior, from Lincoln, Nebraska, went 6-for-6 on extra points and also connected on 1-of-2 field goal attempts. This season, Stogdill is a perfect 33-for-33 on extra points and 5-for-10 on field goal attempts. He also hit a big punt early in the 3rd quarter that pinned the Chargers at their own 1-yard line leading to a 3-and-out. The following Bronco possession resulted in a touchdown. The 24th-ranked Broncos travel to Sioux Center, Iowa to take on the Dordt Defenders on Saturday. Kick off will be at 1 pm.
