The weekly top performers in football have been announced by the Great Plains Athletic Conference.
Offense – Dillon Turner, Quarterback (Dakota Wesleyan University) Dakota Wesleyan quarterback Dillon Turner is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Offensive Player-of-the-Week. Turner, a junior from Salem, Arkansas, continues to show off his dual-threat ability as he led the Tigers on the ground with 15 carries for 160 yards and two touchdowns in a 39-20 win over Hastings. He also exploited the Broncos secondary, completing 22-of-37 passes for 301 and two touchdowns. The 301 yards passing was a season high. Dakota Wesleyan, ranked 22nd in the NAIA, has this weekend off.
Defense – Drew Krueger, Defensive Line (Doane University) Doane defensive lineman Drew Krueger is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Defensive Player-of-the-Week. Krueger, a senior, from Fort Calhoun, Nebraska, played a big role in the Tigers win over No. 16 Concordia as he posted eight tackles, including one for negative yardage. Doane held Concordia to 82 yards on the ground and an average of 2.2 yards per carry. The pressure he provided up front on the Concordia quarterbacks helped force four interceptions in the game.. Doane will travel to 25th-ranked Midland University on October 1. Kick off will be at 1pm.
Special Teams – Cole Wiseman, Return Specialist (Doane University) Doane return man and defensive back Cole Wiseman is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Special Teams Player-of-the-Week. Wiseman, a junior, from Sutton, Nebraska, had an all-round big day but started it by sparking Doane on the first punt return of the game against No. 16 Concordia. He took the punt back 62 yards for a touchdown and an early 7-0 lead. For the game, Wiseman added 10 total tackles and 1 interception which was returned for 38 yards and set-up Doane’s final touchdown of the game.
