A pair of basketball players from Northwestern have been honored as Players of the Week in the Great Plains Athletic Conference.
Women – Kassidy De Jong, Northwestern College (Guard)
Northwestern guard Kassidy De Jong is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports women’s basketball player-of-the-week. De Jong, a junior from Hospers, Iowa, helped lead 15th-ranked Northwestern to a 2-0 record last week. She averaged 18 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in a pair of wins over Dordt and College of Saint Mary. De Jong shot 46% from the field for the week.
Men – Nathan Wedel, Northwestern College (Guard)
Northwestern guard Nathan Wedel is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports men’s basketball player-of-the-week. Wedel, a senior from Yale, South Dakota, averaged 28.5 points, 7 rebounds and 3.5 assists in a pair of wins over Dordt and Dakota State. Wedel shot 63% from the field and also tallied two steals. He scored a career-high 46 points in the Red Raiders overtime win over Dordt, the second most all-time for a single game in program history.
