The Great Plains Athletic Conference has named its football Players of the Week.

 

Offense – Brandon Wegher, Running Back – Morningside College
Morningside running back Brandon Wegher is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Offensive Player-of-the-Week. Wegher, a junior from Dakota Dunes, South Dakota, scored five touchdowns as the Mustangs win over Concordia. His 258 yards rushing was the fourth highest single-game performance in Morningside history. He also set school records with 28 touchdowns this season and 35 career rushing touchdowns. In addition he set school single-season records with 26 rushing touchdowns and 170 points. His 1493 yards rushing this season is the second highest total in Morningside history.  The top ranked Mustangs host No. 8 Northwestern next week in a 1 PM contest.

Defense – Hunter Hand, Linebacker – Nebraska Wesleyan University
Nebraska Wesleyan linebacker Hunter Hand is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Defensive Player-of-the-Week. Hand, a junior from Springfield, Nebraska, had 10 total tackles for a Prairie Wolves defense that held Dakota Wesleyan to 7 points and limited the Tigers to just 46 total rush yards, 150 under their team average. He also had a QB sack and three pass breakups in the upset of the No. 19 ranked Tigers. Nebraska Wesleyan travels to Fremont to take on Midland at 1 PM next week.
Special Teams – Patrick Taccogna, Kicker – Briar Cliff University
Briar Cliff kicker Patrick Taccogna is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Special Teams Player-of-the-Week. Taccogna, a freshman from Brampton, Ontario Canada was perfect on Saturday in the Chargers’ 27-21 victory over Midland. He made both of his field goal attempts, including a long of 35 yards, and was also a perfect 3-for-3 on PAT attempts. He is a perfect 18-18 on PAT’s this season and is the only kicker in the GPAC with over 15 attempts this season who has not missed a point after. Taccogna also handled kickoff duties with six kicks for 307 yards. Briar Cliff travels to Crete, Nebraska to battle with Doane next Saturday at 1 PM.
