Weekly awards for volleyball and soccer were announced Tuesday by the Great Plains Athletic Conference.
Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Volleyball Players-of-the-Week
Attacker – Brooke Granstra, Dordt College (Middle Hitter)
Dordt’s Brooke Granstra is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Volleyball Attacker-of-the-Week. Granstra, a junior from Sioux Center, Iowa, had 44 kills over three matches, including 15, hitting .467, in a win over No. 1 Viterbo. She added 17 kills in a victory over No. 2 Midland as the Defenders went 3-0 on the week. Granstra recorded her 1000th career kill in a win over Mount Marty.
Setter – Jamie Gesink, Dordt College
Jamie Gesink of Dordt is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Volleyball Setter-of-the-Week. Gesink, a freshman from Sioux Center, Iowa, averaged 11.58 assists per set last week in leading the Defenders to a perfect 3-0 record and wins over both No. 1 Viterbo and No. 2 Midland.
Defensive – Jillian Estes, Northwestern College (Libero)
Northwestern libero Jillian Estes is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Volleyball Defensive Player-of-the-Week. Estes, a junior from Sioux Center, Iowa, Sioux Center, Iowa helped lead No.11 Northwestern to a perfect 3-0 record last week. She averaged 6.8 digs per set in road wins over Morningside, Nebraska Wesleyan and College of Saint Mary. Estes also totaled four ace serves in leading the Red Raiders to three straight 3-0 sweeps.
Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Men’s Soccer Players-of-the-Week
Men’s Offense – Daniel Whitehall, Hastings College (Forward)
Daniel Whitehall of Hastings is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Men’s Soccer Offensive Player-of-the-Week. Whitehall, a freshman, from Warrington, England, picked up a goal against Northwestern and backing that up with two goals against Concordia along with an assist. He now has six goals, tied for second on the team, and two assists on the season.
Men’s Defense – Akeem Ward, Hastings College (Goal Keeper)
Hastings Bronco defender Akeem Ward is the GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Men’s Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week. Ward, a freshman, from Vienna, Virginia, has made a big impact this season from his defensive position helping keep opposing teams from gaining multiple opportunities on goal. He also had a nice week picking up an assist against both Northwestern and Concordia.
Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Women’s Soccer Players-of-the-Week
Women’s Offense – Amy Grause, Morningside College (Forward)
Amy Grause of Morningside is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Women’s Soccer Offensive Player-of-the-Week. Grause, a junior, from Sioux City, Iowa, broke a Morningside single-game record when she dealt four assists in the Mustangs’ 6-2 victory against Dordt. She also scored the game winning goal in the Mustangs’ 3-2 triumph at Nebraska Wesleyan when she scored with 25:05 left to break a 2-2 tie.
Women’s Defense – Megan Manley, Midland University (Goal Keeper)
Megan Manley of Midland is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Women’s Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week. Manley, a senior, from Lee’s Summit, Missouri, picked up two wins in goal for Midland while recording eight saves last week. The senior keeper also became the Warriors new all-time leader in career saves, currently sitting at 362.
