Weekly awards for golf and cross country in the Great Plains Athletic Conference were released Wednesday.
In golf:
Women-Anjana Cordes, Morningside College
Anjana Cordes of Morningside is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Women’s Golfer-of-the-Week. Cordes, a freshman, from Bad Vilbel, Germany, fired a five-over par 77 to share individual medalist honors at a weather shortened GPAC Fall Golf Qualifier with Mount Marty’s Logan Wagner and lead Morningside to the team title by a 27-stroke margin. The win was the Mustangs’ fourth tournament championship in a row. Cordes finished the fall season as the Mustangs’ scoring leader with an average of 80.0 strokes per 18 holes. Men – Collin Tedesco, Hastings College
Collin Tedesco of Hastings is the GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Men’s Golfer-of-the-Week. Tedesco, a senior from Castle Rock, Colorado, shot a school record 4-under 67 which bettered the field by two strokes at the weather shortened GPAC Fall Golf Qualifier. He backed that performance up with a fourth place finish at the All Nebraska Intercollegiate meet in Norfolk, Nebraska with a two day total of 4-over 148.
In cross country:
Women – Marissa DeWispelare, Doane University
Doane’s Marissa DeWispelare is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Women’s Cross Country Runner-of-the-Week. DeWispelare, a senior from David City, Nebraska, was the top intercollegiate finisher in a race featuring three NAIA Top 25 squads (Dordt, Morningside, Hastings) and NCAA Division II schools #24 Augustana, Sioux Falls and Wayne State (NE). She topped the next intercollegiate runner by 23 seconds while posting a personal best time (17:28) on the 5k course.
Men – Will Norris, Northwestern College
Will Norris of Northwestern College is the GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Men’s Cross Country Runner-of-the-Week. Norris, a senior from Spirit Lake, Iowa, took first place to help Northwestern to the men’s team championship at the Briar Cliff Invitational held last weekend. Norris turned in the second fastest 8K time in program history, clocking a career-best 24:55, 46 seconds faster than his previous best. His time is just five seconds slower than Dale Schoolmeester, who owns the school record (24:50) set at Dakota Wesleyan in 1981. Northwestern is ranked 16th in the latest NAIA Coaches’ poll.
