The governors of North Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa have signed Emergency Executive Orders to deal with the propane shortage. The order exempts commercial motor vehicles delivering propane from the hours of service requirements for November. Iowa Propane and Gas Association CEO Deb Grooms says the late harvest and high moisture content of the grain has created more demand for propane for drying.

She says their association is teaming up with the Governor’s office and State Department of Agriculture to find ways to access and deliver more propane to meet everyone’s needs.

Grooms says they’re also exploring ways to source more propane and have been tapping other states like Texas.

Groom says the Federal Motor Carrier Administration issued a regional waiver the first of this month, that runs through November 30.
