Finding housing has become very difficult and that is putting pressure on the “Governors House” program in South Dakota. Those are home built by prisoners at Mike Durfee State Penitentiary in Springfield. The idea for the homes came from former Governor Bill Janklow.

Fred Binder handles the program for Planning District Three in Yankton, covering sixteen counties in south central and south east South Dakota..

Binder says they are selling two models..

Binder says you will have to wait a while for your own Governors Home…

Binder says the homes are considered “stick built” and can go on a slab or full basement.
