Governors from 17 states including Iowa’s Terry Branstad have agreed to an accord for a new energy future. It calls for embracing new energy solutions to expand the economy and protect community’s health and natural resources. Iowa Wind Energy Association President Dain Jorgenson says Governor Branstad has been very committed to wind energy and in the near future the state will get 40-percent of its energy from wind.
He expects the Governor’s Cleaner Energy Group to do a great job of advancing clean power, like wind energy, which has seen great success in Iowa.
Jorgenson says he’s hoping other states will follow Iowa’s example by using a bipartisan approach to push forward clean energy goals.
The goals of the Governor’s group include: building more sophisticated energy efficient electrical grids, buying in pools to get cheaper clean energy vehicles for state fleets and lobbying the federal government for more research and development of energy storage, clean fuels and the electric grid.
