The Governor’s Biofuels Coalition is asking President Joe Biden to ensure the future of the biofuels sector. Coalition Chair and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz says the biofuels industry is now in jeopardy and threatened by trade wars, a litigious petroleum industry and shrinking demand caused by the pandemic. Minnesota Biofuels Association Executive Director Tim Rudnicki says Governor Walz is reminding the President of how renewable fuels benefit the environment as well as the economy.

Walz in his letter told the President that banning aromatics use would allow for the substitution of cleaner octane additives for aromatics and expanding the market for ethanol. Rudnicki says banning those aromatics would be a helpful move.

Rudnicki is hoping that the new EPA administrator likely Michael Regan will closely follow the RFS and disallow the massive numbers of small refiner waivers.

Walz told the President that EPA’s regulations, mainly the waiver provision have been manipulated and distorted to keep the RFS from meeting its full potential.
