South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem will host the annual Governor’s Agricultural Summit which begins on Wednesday and continues through Thursday.  This year’s summit will be held at the campus of South Dakota State University in Brookings.  Noem says agriculture is the lifeblood of South Dakota’s economy, and the Ag Summit brings producers and industry leaders together to discuss ongoing struggles and new innovations.  This past year, producers faced many challenges, from supply chain disruptions and low cattle prices to drought.  The annual Ag Summit is the perfect forum for our community to come together and discuss solutions to these critical issues so we can keep our ag economy going strong.  Speakers for this year’s Agriculture Summit will include South Dakota Secretary of Agriculture , Hunter Roberts, Former USDA Under-Secretary Greg Ibach, and motivational speaker Chris Koch.  Other scheduled speakers include Brent Gloy who will share his insight on the agriculture economic outlook picture.  Fifth generation rancher and author Amanda Radke will speak on “how agriculture can lead a nation through challenging times.”  Angus Kelly with the National Corn Growers Association will offer an address for anticompetitive practices in agriculture.  Later in the afternoon, Governor Kristi Noem will share a policy update and will name the recipient of the Ag Ambassador Award.  Greg Ibach, the former Under Secretary of Agriculture during the Trump administration will focus on reimagining conservation programs and how they will impact the next farm bill legislation.  The second day of the Governor’s Agriculture Summit will include tours at the Orland Ridge Dairy farm, and the South Dakota State Swine Education and Research Facility, along with the SDSU Animal Disease and Research Diagnostic lab.  Concluding the Agricultural Summit attendees will be served SDSU ice cream.
