South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard is pledging his support and some state funding to the new Animal Disease Research and Diagnostic Lab at South Dakota State University. He says his office has been helping to get the price tag for the facility whittled down, mainly through some redesign of the original building plans.
Additionally, Daugaard says he’ll be looking at the state budget to find some one time dollars for construction, but will be relying on industry to do most of the heavy lifting.
South Dakota State University is also being tapped, however, the Governor doesn’t know yet how much they will be willing to contribute.
Most of the farm groups in South Dakota have made the new Animal Disease Research and Diagnostic Lab their top priority for the 2017 legislative session.
