Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts says if the legislature takes advantage of the U.S. Supreme Court decision to let states collect sales tax from online purchasers, that new revenue should go to property tax relief. Nebraska Cattlemen Association Vice President of Legislative Affairs Laura Field says that idea makes sense and is hoping State Senators will take a serious look at that.
She’s hoping when state Senators meeting this summer they’ll put the online tax revenue possibility at the top of their list. Lawmakers are trying to craft a measure for property tax relief the full legislature can consider in January.
Field says her group has studied the property tax issue for some time and has in the past backed the idea of taxing online sales.
Field says the concern over rising property taxes in Nebraska has been an issue for the past twenty years and for the full five years she’s been with the Association.
