Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts says his property tax cut proposal needs to get out of committee and get to the legislative floor for debate.
Ricketts says he continues to work with lawmakers and outside groups to craft a package of property and income tax cuts which can attract the 33 votes needed to overcome an expected filibuster.
Ricketts isn’t sure he has found the magic formula to get the needed votes.
Ricketts has proposed a mixture of property and income tax cuts, totaling around 240-Million dollars. A billion-dollar package could face votes in November.
Ricketts says his proposal will work in the current budget.
Ricketts claims that if the billion-dollar proposal were to pass, it would force state lawmakers to drastically cut services and likely increase other taxes to offset the loss of revenue.
