Governor Pete Ricketts says non-traditional agriculture might help pull Nebraska agriculture out of some down years.
Though Nebraska agriculture is experiencing a down period, it has a chance to rebound according to Ricketts with poultry processing plants such as the Costco plant going up in Fremont.
Ricketts says expanded trade also can help the state’s biggest ag sector: beef cattle. Nebraska remains the top cattle on feed state in the nation with nearly 7-Million cattle.
Ricketts says the state can build on that.
Ricketts says trade is the key to capitalizing on the beef industry. He says China could become a huge market for Nebraska beef.
Ricketts will host the 30th annual Governor’s Ag Conference in Kearney March 7th and 8th.
