Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts insists he’s still listening and remains flexible as he pushes for his combination of property and income tax cuts.
Ricketts has proposed converting the property tax credit fund into refundable tax credits and cuts to the individual and corporate income tax. The proposal has gone before a legislative committee. The governor says tweaks are still being made.
Ricketts says his proposal has the same goal as the billion-dollar property tax cut proposal sponsored by Senator Steve Erdman of Bayard.
Ricketts faces opposition from some state senators who oppose cutting taxes during a down budget year. He also faces opposition from some who might normally be counted as allies, but back a more ambitious property tax cut proposal.
