Even though Whiteclay beer sales have ended, alcoholism remains a problem for some people on the Pine Ridge Reservation.

That’s the assessment of Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts.

He says those who are struggling have to get treatment before anything else can be fixed.

The governor says Nebraska can only do so much to limit alcohol sales near the Pine Ridge Reservation.

Ricketts says the state has offered grants to Whiteclay to demolish abandoned buildings.

He says he is willing to work with state senators and local leaders to tackle the issue.
