Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts outlined proposed cuts to the state budget, while encouraging lawmakers to quickly adopt his proposals for the current fiscal year during his State of the State address.
Ricketts has already presented his solution to close a 267-Million dollar gap in the current budget…urging legislators to act quickly on the package that makes cuts throughout state government. . .
Ricketts is proposing a change in how the state assesses farmland.
State lawmakers have resisted Ricketts’ calls in the past to reduce the property tax burden on farmers.
Now, the governor proposes shifting ag land assessment from a market-based approach to an income-based approach. . .
As for the coming two-year budget, Ricketts proposes increasing funding to schools slightly, holding Corrections off limits to cuts, and cutting other agencies throughout state government.
