Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts opposes a bill that would do away with mandatory minimum prison sentences, even in its modified form.
Ricketts is unimpressed with changes made by the Unicameral which limited the bill to those charged with drug crimes. . .
The bill originally would have removed mandatory minimums on a number of crimes. It has been amended to only cover drug crimes.
Ricketts says he believes the bill still compromises public safety. . .
The legislature advanced the bill with the minimum number of votes needed. It has yet to return for second round debate.
