Governor Ricketts Defends Proposed Cuts

Governor Pete Ricketts defends his proposed cuts to the University of Nebraska system, even in the face of dire warnings from university officials.
University officials warn deep budget cuts could stop momentum in attracting students and spurring economic growth.

Ricketts says the money simply isn’t there.

As for NU President Hank Bounds’ suggestion to postpone a decision until fall, Ricketts doesn’t see it as realistic.

Ricketts says he’s sticking with a 2-percent cut this year and 4-percent next year. . .
