The South Dakota Agricultural Foundation accepted a 5-year challenge from Governor Dennis Daugaard to raise $4 million to support the future of agriculture and agribusiness in the state. At a news conference yesterday in Sioux Falls the Governor announced an additional $1 million in funds from the state and the South Dakota Community Foundation. Foundation President Nate Franzen says it was an exciting day.

He says at the news conference at the POET headquarters, the ethanol industry leader also unveiled the first contribution to kick-start the challenge at $250,000.

Franzen says even before this announcement, the Foundation had awarded several thousands of dollars of grants for support of youth education projects.

More information and grant applications are available on the South Dakota Ag Foundation website.
