Jay Johnson will be the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Minnesota, after leaving the same positions at Louisiana-Lafayette.

The Ragin’ Cajuns said Johnson resigned Tuesday to join the Gophers.

Johnson is a native of Lakeville, Minnesota, and he went to high school in the Minneapolis suburb before playing at Northern Iowa from 1989-92. Johnson coached at Louisiana-Lafayette for five years, overseeing an offense that set several school records. The Ragin’ Cajuns had four straight 9-4 seasons, including a Sun Belt Conference title in 2013, before finishing 4-8 in 2015.

The Gophers were working Tuesday to finalize the agreement. The jobs opened last month when coach Tracy Claeys fired offensive coordinator Matt Limegrover and quarterbacks coach Jim Zebrowski. The Gophers beat Central Michigan in the Quick Lane Bowl, finishing 6-7.
