A couple of talented basketball players from Minnesota and Nebraska have indicated their desire to remain in the upcoming NBA draft rather than return to college.
Minnesota scoring leader Amir Coffey will skip his senior season with the Gophers and stay in the NBA draft pool. Coffey’s agent, Javon Phillips, confirmed the decision at the deadline for players to withdraw from the draft and return to their schools.
The 6-foot-8 Coffey was the primary point guard for the Gophers. He averaged 16.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists as a junior in 2018-19 and was a third team All-Big Ten selection.
Nebraska forward Isiah Roby announced Wednesday he will stay in the draft. After three years in Lincoln, he will attempt to become the first Husker drafted since Venson Hamilton in 1999.
Roby averaged nearly 12 points and seven rebounds a game and was among the Big Ten leaders in blocked shots. The NBA draft is Thursday June 20.
