This month, Goodyear is introducing a tire made with soy based rubber. The assurance Weather Ready tires for passenger vehicles features a soy based rubber compound that remains soft at lower temperatures. South Dakota farmer and United Soybean Board Vice Chairman Lewis Bainbridge says they’ve been working with Goodyear on this for six years. He says the tire which has enhanced traction in wet and winter conditions should be very useful in South Dakota.
He says the tires offer another market opportunity for U.S. soybean farmers which helps increase demand for soybeans.
Bainbridge says the new product is a great example of both Goodyear and soybean growers being sustainable.
Goodyear officials believe the new tires using a soy base gives them a competitive advantage.
