It’s not quite half-way through winter and Nebraskans who are spending more time indoors should have their homes tested for radon. The cancer-causing radioactive gas can’t be seen, smelled or tasted. Anthony Salcedo (sal-SEE-doe), service manager at Thrasher Basement Systems in Omaha, says radon is a problem statewide.
Salcedo says radon has nothing to do with the construction of your home or problems with the basement.
If there are high levels, radon can be reduced by calling a mitigation specialist or looking into a do-it-yourself kit.
