GMO Labeling Bill Introduced In The House

GMO Labeling Bill Introduced In The House

Wednesday, Legislation was introduced in the U.S. House to establish a federal labeling standard for genetically engineered crops. The Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act if passed would give sole authority to the Food and Drug Administration to require mandatory labeling on foods if they’re ever found to be unsafe. National Council Of Farmer Cooperatives President and CEO Chuck Connor says the best part of the measure is that it will provide certainty and clarity to regulation of GMO’s.

Connor says another major benefit of the legislation is that it over rides piecemeal state laws that are problematic and don’t recognize the efficiency and safety of bioengineered crops.

A similar bill is expected to be introduced in the Senate soon.
