The recent move by the Trump administration to delay the GIPSA Farmer Fair Practice Rule is disappointing for one South Dakota farm group leader. State Farmers Union President Doug Sombke says he was hoping the protections provided by the rule would have gone forward.

He says his group will ask the new Ag Secretary to push for the rule once he’s confirmed.

Sombke is hopeful that the new Ag Secretary will give his group the kind of support outgoing Secretary Tom Vilsack gave them on issues important for farmers and ranchers like the GIPSA Farmer Fair Practice rule.

The GIPSA rule was among several that were delayed by the new administration for sixty days.
