Gavins Point Dam Work Continues Upgrades

While there may not be a lot of visible outside work at Gavins Point Dam near Yankton this year, there is planning underway for some major renovations.
Dave Becker, Operations Manager for the Corps of Engineers at the dam, says they are working on some new controls systems for the hydro turbines…..

Becker says all of the this work is pointing to upgrades of the turbines themselves in the next few years…..

Becker says turbine technology has changed quite a bit since the turbines first started generating electricity in the late 1950s…..

A project to repair damage to the dam from the flooding of 2011 wrapped up last fall.
