Gavins Point Dam Spillway Slab Ready after Repairs

During the Missouri River flooding in the spring and summer of 2011, Gavins Point Dam, near Yankton, released over one hundred sixty thousand cubic feet of water per second for about six weeks.
In the wake of that pounding, damage was found along and under the concrete spillway slab.
Gavins Point Operations Manager Dave Becker says it took a couple of years to make repairs, and they check that slab every year……

Becker says that flooding taught them some lessons in how to operate the dam…..

It took about three years to finish all the repairs from the high water.
