The chairman of the Iowa House Transportation Committee says the gas tax increased that was passed earlier in the session is working for the state’s roads and bridges, despite recent comments that it isn’t enough. Representative Josh Byrnes of Osage says in the future, lawmakers will have to look at other means to fund roads and bridges besides gas taxes.
He says efficiency must also be looked at when considering infrastructure funding for the future.
Some Iowa legislators criticized the recent gas tax increase and said the $365 million passed in road funding would not be sufficient. Byrnes says those people have offered no real solutions.
