This week Senate leaders sent a letter to the Government Accountability Office asking them to review a drastic drop in cattle market prices in 2015. Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley of Iowa is spearheading the effort. He says the problem was brought to his attention by R-CALF and other cattle producers and agriculture groups.
He says a full and complete analysis of the issue is needed and the GAO is the best agency to accomplish that.
Grassley says its critical fair and competitive markets are in place to protect the cattle industry.
Joining Grassley in the letter are Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar, Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy and Utah Senator Mike Lee.
