The Sanford Community Center’s Gang Outreach Program is an organization dedicated to keeping youth out of trouble.  Cindy Waitt is the director for the Kind world Foundation and the Waitt Institute for Violence Prevention in Sioux City, who is the lead sponsor of a fundraiser for the program.  She says the Gang Outreach Program has been around for 22 years and as a result, the number of youth in juvenile detention have decreased…

Waitt says the students whom the program reaches out to include those referred by the juvenile court services, the school districts, or the families themselves.  She says The Waitt Institute for Violence Prevention has given grants to the program, but a benefit is being held to help raise money for those adults to continue their outreach…

The fundraiser will benefit the Gang Outreach Program, which operates within Sioux City and the Sioux City school system.
