Albinism is a genetic condition that many people don’t encounter on a regular basis, but it affects about one in every 17,000 boys and occurs once per 20,000 girls across the nation. One South Dakota mother is raising awareness and support for the National Organization for Albinism and Hypopigmentation (NOAH) through a fundraiser tomorrow (Saturday) at the Sport Bowl in Sioux Falls. Samantha Vogler has a 10 year old son who is albino. She says NOAH has been a great resource for her as a parent of someone with albinism.
Vogler says the organization is designed to assist those with albinism and provide answers to parents of children with the genetic condition.
Vogler has organized the Bowl-a-thon fundraiser tomorrow to raise awareness and money for NOAH, which will be used to continue the care packages and help those with albinism attend the national conferences. She says she hopes to educate the community about albinism through the event.
The Bowl-a-thon fundraiser at the Sport Bowl in Sioux Falls will also feature a raffle, silent auction and food from 1:00-4:00 pm.
